Let's Play Dreidel!

A dreidel is a spinning top used to play a Chanukkah game. The letters stand for the Hebrew words "Nes Gadol Haya Sham", which means, "A great miracle happened there." Some dreidels made in Israel say "here" (po), instead of "there" (sham). Any number of people can play. The goal is to get as much of the center 'pot' as possible.

Begin with everyone having the same number of pieces of candy, nuts, gelt, etc. Each person puts one piece in the center. Players spin the dreidel in turn. The youngest player begins.

When the dreidel lands on:
נ Nun Player does nothing, turn is over.
ג Gimmel Player takes the entire pot!
ה Hay Player takes 1/2 the pot.
שפ Shin or Pay Player adds one to the pot.

After a gimmel, each puts another piece in the pot.
The game is over when one person has all the pieces...
  or dinner is ready.

If you have the most candy at the end of the game, you win.
If you have the least, either you lost, or you ate it all!

Other ways to enjoy your dreidel with friends:
See whose spin lasts the longest.
See who can spin it upside down.
